Hello and welcome. My name is Hana Varzandeh and I am a Registered Social Worker (MSW,RSW) with the Ontario College of Social Workers and Social Service Workers. I have more than 18 years of experience in the field of social work both in the community development area and clinical mental health area. I have worked in many hospitals in different capacities including Crisis in the emergency room and Mobile Crisis in the commuity. I served as a consultant to Police Services in their mobile crisis program.
Who do I work with & What can I help with? I work with individuals of 16 years and older. My clinical and therapeutic work focuses on helping clients with depression, anxiety, adjusting to life altering experiences such as the loss of a loved one, retirement, marriage, ending a relationship, caring for family members with disabilities/mental health challenges, just to name a few!
I incorporate diverse modalities depending on the context of the session and it can be revisited during our journey through the therapy sessions. At times when appropriate I utilize Eastern teachings in meditation and underestanding of the connections between the body and the mind, in order to create a more nurturing space for our work together.
My Therapeutic Approach I consider therapy to be an opportunity to clear a foggy mirror, where we can see ourselves with less judgment and more vision on our abilities, strength and resilience. I believe healing begins with being heard, validated and understood in a safe space. Good work happens when the emotions are delicately touched and cared for where they can be examined and processed.
Training I have both a Bachelor’s degree and a Masters degree in Social Work, both obtained from Canadian University. Leaving school does not mean learning is at its end, I regularly engage in training and workshops to keep up to date with the feild and new knowledge that emerges frequently. I am trained in providing therapy in ADHD. I am currently in the process of becoming certified Grief Counsellor and certified in Veteran and Military Mental Health. What else should you know? As rewarding as therapy could be, it could also be challenging as we learn new things about ourselves and we process our emotions around our past experiences. With the right therapist you can walk the path with strength and wisdom. The journey is both interesting and challenging. Lets not give up easily and give it a try!I speak English, Farsi & Kurdish and am able to provide therapy in all languages

I have a calm disposition and connect with my clients through appropriate humor and a compassionate stance. I will provide both guidance and support in your therapeutic journey, “having your back”, while you disclose your personal story and as we work through the things that have brought you to therapy.
Training I have had formal education in CBT (Cognitive-Behavioral Therapy), DBT (Dialectical-Behavioral Therapy), and Mindfulness. My practice is eclectic in nature and mixes talk therapy with the targeted use of these modalities to help meet your therapy goals. What else should you know?
